Inching forward at the speed of light!
I think I’m done with rev 1 of the new site! It only took about 8 total hours of work over a 36-hour period. So, after some QA and bug testing, I’ll be ready to roll it live tomorrow night!
The load time is significantly faster! It’s gone down to under a second to parse the PHP and 2 seconds tops to load all the AJAX stuff. If it’s any slower, it’s because of the sites I’m pulling the feeds from. All of the blog entries are cached for an hour at a time and the cache can be used in case the source goes down.
Once I roll it live, I’m going to work on a quick admin section for server and personal utilities I like to keep password-protected. I’ll also set up a way to refresh the cache manually. All that shouldn’t take but an hour tops.
Then, I’m going to work on modifications to the gallery. Displaying random thumbnails for folders is priority #1. After that will come the uber-fancy features of seamlessly integrating my Flickr photos into the gallery. It would look and act exactly like it was originating from the original PhragMunkee.com gallery except contain titles, descriptions, and comments. My only worry is that Flickr has a bad habit of being overloaded at times and breaking. Hrmm..
Go me!
…now time for bed.
