New Server

It turns out the PCI bus on the old server was going bad. That’s why I was having issues with the RAIDs. After some trials and tribulations, I got a new motherboard, processor, and RAM and installed Ubuntu 6.06 LTS amd64. There were a few tricks to get it working. The main problem was getting the installer to actually load up and install the OS. It turns out the MSI board didn’t like the RAM I had on there although it passed memTest86 and ran fine on a couple of different Intel boards. After that, it was pretty much smooth sailing. The only hangup came when installing Hamachi. I had to apt-get ia32-libs to get Hamachi working. I have no idea why, it just works.

So, now that the server is up, I’m going to set up some more frequent and reliable backups to my file server at home AND the large RAID array on this server.

I’m also going to clean out the PhragMunkee.com gallery. At over 7500 files and 40+ GB, it’s just getting too big. I’ll have an archive of the pictures backed up to DVD and to Overkill. I’m just going to start with a mostly clean slate. I’ll leave up albums from vacations and such. That or I’ll move them to another site. I’m not sure yet. I just know I want a cleaner start to this one.

I also uploaded a few pictures from the gallery to Picasa Web Albums. My address there is http://picasaweb.google.com/phragmunkee.
