New Stuff 6/7/07
So, with getting a new camera, having my first photo published, and the feedback I received from that post, I have taken a renewed sense of life with my web site. I haven’t done a whole lot, really, just added a couple of pages (somewhere off to the right). I added a Flickr page that pulls the RSS feed from Flickr and displays my latest upload. I also created a Picasa Web Album just to play around and see what Google has to offer. It’s not bad and its integration with Picasa is nice. I started a gallery there that has some of the pictures I have taken with my new Canon Digital Rebel XTi. The direct album link is here.
I’ve been trying to work out a new gallery/web album system for PhragMunkee.com and nothing seems to fit. I’d like to ditch my Flickr account for anything but pictures taken with my camera phones. However, if I didn’t have some of those pictures on Flickr, the book thing would have never happened. Picasa is pretty nice, but space is limited to 1GB unless I pay for more. I’m already paying for Flickr, so I don’t really want to spend any more money. Then I also have the PhragMunkee.com gallery that hasn’t seen a new picture in several months. That’s mostly because I haven’t been taking any pictures, but I also think the Wordpress plugin I’m using is not what I’d like it to be. That, and with around 7,500+ pictures, it’s getting awfully cluttered and bloated. I may take some of them down or move them to an “old” gallery. Then I can start a fresh new gallery and maybe finagle some RSS/API trickery to mix and match between Picasa, Flickr, and a local gallery.
I’m also thinking about starting a featured photo post at random times. I feel that I have a decent eye and more than decent cameras for taking pictures. Why not display a few that I’m proudest of? I could mix and match from the different online services and galleries. Heck, I may start using something like DeviantArt to cycle more of my photos out into the wild. It could possibly become another source of income on the side and another way to get my stuff printed (which is the exciting part!).
I dunno. There’s lots to do with work and other side projects amidst all of the other ideas I have. Que sera sera!
