I can’t believe Amy and Garrett are married already!!! It seems like it was just yesterday when she asked me to share her special day as her maid of honor… months just flew by!!!
But before I tell you all about the actual wedding, I need to tell you my journey to that day.
As soon as she asked me to be her maid of honor the girly woman in my –of course- immediately got concerned about clothing: What am I going to wear??? ![]()
If you know Amy, you know she’s the most laid back girl ever, and she would never make it complicated for you to make her happy, so of course her answer was “Whatever you feel comfortable in… whatever you want” … and I’m like ‘oh no! now what? What should I wear??? Maybe bridesmaids dress?? Where can I get it??? Would I still have time to order one?? Should I just try to get something nice from my own closet??? Aaaaaaahhhhhhh!!’
So as days went by and my worry kept growing, a total random Saturday I was hanging out with Richell because we both like Vintage dresses and had always talked about going to Va-Va Vintage to check out some nice clothes but for some reason when we got there a little after noon (they are supposed to be open from 12 to 4 or 5) they were closed… we waited a little while and since they didn’t open we decided to go to thrift stores instead since I had never shopped at one (nope, no thrift stores in Venezuela, believe it or not), and in the very first Goodwill Store we stopped at, I found this awesome sage bridesmaids dress (it was the first thing I touched in the store, I’m not even kidding) and I was like ‘Oh, wow… it’s so beautiful, but there is no way it would fit me” but when I checked the size tag I realized it was actually my size and decided to try it on. Well, it FIT ME PERFECTLY!!!! And I mean PERFECT!!! As if I had gotten it altered!. I couldn’t believe it, and neither could Richell… it was like… meant to be. Seriously! So I got the dress and was ready to go!
Fast-forward to the day before the wedding (I know, I should say something about the bridal shower, but all you need to know is that Amy got a bunch of cool lingerie and Garrett must be the happiest man right now as they enjoy their honeymoon
… oh, and there was a pool where I enjoyed swimming for hours until I was the only one left in the pool and everybody wanted to go… lol) Amy, Garrett, Adam (not my Adam, but Megan’s Adam) and I went up to spend the night at Butterfly Hollow and it was the best road trip I’ve ever been in… I didn’t even fall asleep!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We had a blast… we told jokes (even in Spanish!!!) we sang, we called people and left cool messages in their voice mail… we called Al and told him how much we missed him… we met with Mark (VonDizer) and went to his house where we played with a bunch of stuff at his house (including his TV and everything he has recorded in there such as TV shows, movies, Anime… etc… oh yeah, I even tried on his roller skates and played with his daughter’s toys… lol… It was awesome… We had dinner after that. Good food, good company… Can you ask for anything else?
OK, that night all four of us stayed at the Butterfly Hollow, played Catan (yes, Garrett, I know Amy and I lost that game… but we kicked your butt on Saturday’s game! HA!) and went to bed. Amy wasn’t nervous or anything… I guess when you know you are marrying the right person everything goes smooth.
Well, to make a long story short (and leave something for Amy and Garrett to blog about if they please) the wedding was absolutely PERFECT!!! Ames looked like a princess, and little Olivia was wearing a fairy dress, she looked adorable! (awwwwwww!!)
And… well… for the first time in my life… I cried like a baby during a wedding. No, no exclamation marks… I had NEVER cried at a wedding… the most I’ve gotten was a little choked up once… but this time I really cried like a baby… and I would’ve denied it until the day I die, but people got pictures… so I guess I have to come clean…
!! But how could I not cry?? There they were, two of my favorite people, saying wedding vows and joining their lives, and I got to be a part of it!!!!
I was so emotional that I messed up my Maid of Honor Speech when I burst into tears in the middle of it… and I had so many nice things I wanted to say!!!!! Well, just so you know… this is what I wanted my speech to sound like…
“When you are away from your family friends are very important, and I feel blessed to have Am- (here is where I messed up and started crying… but it would’ve continued like this…) -y in my life… She is not only a great friend to have fun and play Wii and Rock Band with, but she is also my confidant and has been there for me with good advice and support when I’ve needed it. I couldn’t ask for more in a friend and I am honored she’s allowed me to shared this special moment as her maid of honor. Here’s to her life as a married woman and may God shower her and Garrett with blessings in a home full of love and joy.” And then I probably would’ve thrown some Spanish in and say “Por Los Novios! (To the Bride and Groom!)” …
It would’ve been cool, huh?
Oh well, I hope they know I tried. LOL
It was truly a fairy tale wedding and I hope they live happily ever after. They truly deserve it! ![]()
